In what could only be described as a particularly rough day for Riverview's entrepreneurial pharmaceutical enthusiasts, the RCMP's latest raid netted enough contraband to stock a small army of deeply questionable life choices. Our intrepid law enforcement friends, apparently tired of the local unauthorized pharmacological distribution network, swooped in with the grace of caffeinated pigeons to confiscate an impressive array of street pharmaceuticals, including cannabis and the ever-popular party-crasher, fentanyl.

The January 2025 operation, which targeted street-level entrepreneurs who'd apparently missed the memo about legal career options, yielded an fascinating collection of items that wouldn't look out of place in a B-grade action movie prop department. Among the seized treasures: soft body armour (because fashion), an assortment of knives (for those really tough Amazon packages), and brass knuckles (when regular knuckles just won't do). The operation's success mirrors recent enforcement actions like the Oak Bay firearms seizure reported just weeks earlier. The investigation that led to these seizures began in fall of 2021 with a focus on disrupting drug trafficking networks. A 25-year-old suspect tried to escape on foot before being quickly apprehended by officers.

Oh, and let's not forget the three firearms – two restricted and one that apparently didn't get the memo about exclusivity.

Adding to this carnival of contraband was a veritable smorgasbord of illicit substances that would make a chemistry teacher weep. The usual suspects were all present: cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, hydromorphone pills, and those trendy Shady 8 pills that absolutely nobody's doctor is prescribing.

A cool $27,000 in cash was also discovered, presumably not earmarked for retirement savings.

The Codiac Regional RCMP Crime Reduction Unit, working in harmony with the New Brunswick Integrated Enforcement Unit (like a well-oiled machine, if machines ran on coffee and overtime), successfully charged 19 individuals. These charges ranged from possession to trafficking, with some bonus weapons offenses thrown in for good measure.

And because no good party ends early, ongoing investigations suggest more arrests might be coming – because apparently, some folks still haven't gotten the memo about the whole "crime doesn't pay" thing.
